UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Aurum Barbarorum. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Silver, 26 mm, 4.00 g, 6 h), 'Tetrarchic Adventus Group D'. Imitating Diocletian, 284-305, or Maximianus, 286-305. ΠIIII+IIIΛIII-ΠTCEHXS Laureate head of Diocletian or Maximianus to left. Rev. Diocletian or Maximianus on horseback to left, heavily stylized, holding patera in his right hand and the tail of the horse in his left; around, imitative legend; in exergue, three crescents. Leu Web Auction 24, 3 December 2022, 3699. A charming silver 'aureus' with curiously blundered legends. Original suspension loop attached. The flan rather wavy, otherwise, very fine.
